The manufacturing process is a two-stage operation that defines its superior characteristics. It begins with cold drawing, where a seamless steel shell is pulled through a die at room temperature. This process cold-works the steel, significantly increasing its tensile strength, yield strength, and hardness while achieving tight outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness tolerances.

The critical second stage is honing, an abrasive machining process. The cold drawn tube's inner diameter (ID) is precision-honed using rotating abrasive stones. This step accomplishes three vital objectives: First, it delivers an exceptionally smooth and consistent internal surface finish, typically measured in micro-inches (Ra). A mirror-like finish is crucial for minimizing friction and wear on seals and pistons, ensuring efficient operation and long service life. Second, it achieves ultra-precise internal dimensional tolerances and straightness. Third, the honing process creates an ideal cross-hatch surface pattern, which is optimal for retaining lubrication and facilitating effective seal break-in.
