Cold-drawn tubes are a high-precision tubing material widely used in machinery manufacturing, the automotive industry, hydraulic systems, and other fields. Their excellent dimensional accuracy and surface finish make them outstanding in applications requiring high-reliability connections. However, to fully realize the performance advantages of cold-drawn tubes, proper usage techniques are crucial.
First, carefully inspect the appearance of the cold-drawn tube before installation to ensure it is free of defects such as scratches, cracks, or deformation. Due to the high surface hardness of cold-drawn tubes, minor damage can cause stress concentrations, affecting long-term performance. During installation, it is recommended to use specialized tools for cutting and processing, avoiding conventional grinding wheels or saws to prevent excessive burrs and heat-affected zones. If cutting is necessary, use high-speed steel saws or plasma cutting. After cutting, trim the tube ends to ensure a smooth, burr-free finish.
Second, the connection method used for cold-drawn tubes directly affects their sealing and durability. Common connection methods include welding, threading, and flaring. Heat input must be controlled during welding to avoid degradation of material properties due to overheating. Low heat input welding processes are recommended, and appropriate post-weld heat treatment is recommended. When making threaded connections, ensure the threads are clean and properly lubricated to prevent galling and excessive wear. For flaring connections, strictly adhere to process parameters to avoid excessive flaring that could cause thinning of the tube wall.

In addition, cold-drawn tubes should be protected from severe vibration or impact loads during use to prevent the propagation of microcracks. In high-pressure or corrosive environments, it is recommended to regularly inspect the surface condition of the tube and, if necessary, implement anti-corrosion measures such as applying a protective coating or replacing damaged areas.

Proper use and maintenance can significantly extend the service life of cold-drawn tubes, ensuring stable and reliable operation under various operating conditions. Mastering proper usage techniques not only improves work efficiency but also reduces maintenance costs, making them a crucial step in engineering applications.
