The performance and longevity of the entire hydraulic cylinder are heavily dependent on the quality and specification of these parts. As detailed in the technical document, piston rods are precision-engineered to exacting standards. They are typically manufactured from high-strength steel grades such as CK45, 42CrMo4, 40Cr, or ST52. These materials are selected for their excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile strength (≥580 MPa) and yield strength (≥350 MPa), ensuring they can withstand significant operational loads and pressures.

A critical feature of the piston rod is its surface treatment. Most are hard chrome plated to a minimum thickness of 20 microns. This chrome layer provides an extremely hard surface (800-1150 HV) for superior wear resistance against seals and environmental contaminants, as well as exceptional corrosion protection. The surface is finely ground and polished to an ultra-smooth finish (Ra ≤ 0.2µm) to minimize friction and prevent damage to the cylinder seals.

 

Dimensional accuracy is paramount. Rods are produced to strict ISO f7 tolerance limits, with stringent controls on straightness (≤ 0.2mm/1000mm) and roundness. This ensures perfect alignment and smooth, consistent operation without buckling or excessive seal wear.

 

These components are supplied in various conditions to meet different application needs, including Hard Chrome Plated, Quenched & Tempered (Q&T), or Induction Hardened. The combination of a robust piston and a precisely crafted, durable piston rod is what delivers the reliable, powerful, and efficient performance expected from industrial hydraulic systems in construction, manufacturing, and heavy machinery.
